Bugs Galore

The past 2 1/2 months have not been great due to a myriad of Apple bugs. It all started during the development cycle of iOS 13.3. When the first beta came out, it became apparent that a new version of Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) was included as a few workflows stopped working. This lead me to log FB7430333 to determine if the breakage was intentional or not. Turns out, that while yes the ITP changes were intentional, it uncovered a separate bug where if a user disabled ITP, no cookies used in a 3rd party context would function....

Thoughts on WWDC 2019

Oh boy, this year sure was chock full of stuff. At WWDC, Apple revealed their plans for a unified development platform, elevated their newer platforms to first class status, and revealed some long overdue hardware. Putting all of that together, there was a lot to unpack and even more to learn with the announcement of SwiftUI, Catalyst, Combine, and a slew of other new frameworks (most being Swift only). tvOS tvOS isn’t useless anymore with the announcement that tvOS 13 will add support for Xbox One and PS4 game controllers....

WWDC 2019 Wish List

It’s that time of year again where Apple developers make the migration to San Jose to find out what changes are coming to the Apple platforms this fall. This year is supposed to be one of the biggest years for Apple due to large architectural projects coming to fruition with the Marzipan SDK releasing to developers (and maybe a hint of ARM based Macs). Additionally, it is looking very likely that iTunes is going away in favor of separate applications....

ARM Based Macs

This week saw the announcement of a new MacBook Air, Mac Mini, and new iPad Pros. The Mac Mini was well overdue for an update (the update took 1475 days) and the MacBook Air update got rid of the last non-Retina Mac, but the star of the show was the new iPad Pro. The new iPad Pros contains an 8-core CPU and a 7-core GPU which allow them to do a lot of work quickly....

Thoughts on WWDC 2018

This year’s WWDC was supposed to be a sparse in terms of new announcements (if the rumors were to be believed) due to Apple changing up the feature set of their major releases due to the poor reception of iOS 11 and macOS 10.13. In fact, iOS 11 has an atypical distribution share compared to iOS 9 and 10 when they were a year old (low 80s instead of high 90s)....
